Keep Cool with the Summer Tips

How to Stay Cool this Summer

The school year is wrapping up - let’s prepare for a great Summer with these tips and hacks.

Holy Moly, May is a wild month filled with graduations, sports banquets, Mother’s Day and so much more. I’ve got two hands on the wheel right now and looking forward to the official summer months when we will slow down the pace and enjoy some time with family and friends. Our family of four is planning to visit our relatives in Texas this summer. The boys are going to take some time to relax while balancing fun camp and summer activities. In addition, House of Von has some exciting projects on the horizon in June and July.

Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful summer!

Commercial Client Update

Local builder Tracey Tollison recently moved her construction office from midtown to Isle of Hope, right across the street from Cohen’s Retreat. An adorable house has now been converted into an office and meeting space for clients to review samples and discuss future house plans with her team. Tracey brought in House of Von to assist her with the conversion of a small room into a supply room oasis. By adding multiple shelves in this space, containers are key to help see what is available, making items easy to find with labels and identification.

One of my favorite points about this project was my experience with Tracey’s right-hand man, Ronnie Odum. Ronnie was reluctant to work with me at first - I think he thought I would throw away his deer mounts and antique tools. On the contrary, I wanted to take his collection and display it for others to muse at while Ronnie works on their house drawings. The peg board addition is perfect for all his drafting tools and is one of my favorite highlights of this project. The whole office was thrilled with the end results, especially Ronnie 🙂.

The Truth about Towels

How many conversations have you had with your friends about towels? Which is the softest? How to organize? Which family member prefers a certain kind for the beach or the pool…or what do you use when disaster strikes with your pet or a spill in your home?

I was thrilled by the thin/quick dry towel trend that emerged about 10 years ago. They take up more than half of the space and forget having to run the dryer for-EVER. However, my young boys prefer a warm and fluffy towel.

A few of my favorite towels are linked here -

  • Thin and Quick dry (HOV pics- Dock & Bay in the middle of price range $20.00)

  • Turkish towels - by Sand Cloud I love Turkish towels- but they are on the high end of cost average price $40.00)

  • Traditional, fluffy, cotton towel - my kids love the Round Beach Towels from Walmart - we have the hamburger, donut & tie-dyed (average price $12.00)

  • Best Luxury bath towels are Weezie towels. I love to support another local female Savannah business owner.

  • The Magic Makeup Eraser is a game-changer! You don’t even need soap. I’m a Texas girl and love my mascara- but I’ve ruined so many towels. I love having a small one in my pool bag in case my mascara is running. (Magic Eraser is $20.00 - I recently tried Erase you Face, which is a four-pack and costs $10.00)

And a few tips on organizing towels here -

  • As we approach the summer months, there is no need to wash the beach and pool towels daily unless they are fully soiled. Therefore, I like to have hooks galore for them to dry on either in the garage or the laundry room. Another easy way to hang between uses is a coat rack.

  • I love this video to show a new folding hack for your towels.

  • This is the perfect time to PURGE your current supply of towels. If any of your pool/beach towels seem worn and tattered, move those to a rag container or take them to the Humane Society for donations.

  • I always keep two old towels near the back door for messy entries (dirty dogs, muddy feet, kitchen spills, etc.)

I hope these towel hints and suggestions help you prepare for summer - and maybe even lead you to buy the one you love or need the most for yourself!
